Bakersfield Murray Family Farms: An Amazing Place for Family Fun!

Bakersfield is a place to be when it comes to fun activities. I believe it’s a city where the perfect balance of activities exists for everyone.

Everyone has their own preferences when marking their calendars with the activities that they want to do and that’s why I started a “Things to do in Bakersfield” series that I post every month. However, this is different, I believe this activity deserves a separate spotlight with this article.

Here I want to shed some light on Murray family farms that are located on the east side of Bakersfield just off Route 58, when going towards Tehachapi.

The place is well packed for you and your kids with a lot of fun activities on the farm and a lot of options to choose from. So, why not turn your vehicle towards this fun place this week? Well, let’s cover everything you can do here.

What are Murray Family Farms?

As the name implies, it’s a Farm, they do farming there, and they grow stuff there but not only do they grow stuff there, they have made a fun place with activities. What they grow and what activities they have will be covered later.

For now, let me tell you a bit about this farm. The farm is not new; it was started back in 1987 by Steve Murray, who bought a 20-acre land and started farming on it. 20 Acre was a lot back in the day but now it has expanded to a whopping 320-acre farm.

Quite big right? Well, of course, it is massive, and converting it into a place for activities was a great idea in my opinion.

What do they grow?

Murray family farms are mostly fruit farms that offer different fruits for different seasons. You can find more info about what they are growling at the moment. If we take the current season, you will find Avocado, pumpkin, end-of-season apples, grapes, berries, corn, and much more.

They are open year-round from 8 am – 8 pm, you can get fresh produce and even pies directly from them when visiting.

What does Murray Family Farm have to Offer?

When you enter the Murray family farm, you’ll come face to face with a big red barn, also called the big red barn.

In this barn, you can do many things like having lunch or picking your one pumpkin or any other fresh produce.

You can pick fruit directly from the farm itself but you can’t just show up any time, you have to check the calendar on the website so you can pick the perfect time according to their calendar.

It has everything that you might say is a miniature representation of Kern County, which is called the fruit basket of the United States because it’s a big producer of fresh items

Admission fees for activities

If you are just visiting the farm for lunch or buying produce, you don’t really need to pay any admission fees, however, if you want to explore more and take part in activities, especially with your kids, you need to pay an admission fee.

The fees vary as per the age of your kids and yourself, you can check out the website to see what you’ll be paying.

Activities this year

Every year they make some variation in the theme so the place keeps booming with visitors. This year when I visited, which you can check out in the video, they had hay rides, a corn maze, and a free pumpkin when leaving. It’s included in the admission fees.

The most fun thing for you and your kids that I came across was the giant pillow they had which is obviously called the pillow, you can bounce on it, and your kids will definitely have a lot of fun on this. The mamas will be scared like me but trust me you gotta try it.

They have a corn maze where you can take the hayride which is attached behind a tractor and when the pumpkin season ends you can come out here and pick different kinds of berries such as blueberries etc.

What’s for kids?

Other than the giant jumping pillow that your kids can enjoy, your kids can also enjoy the pretend cars, slide, a little horsey ride, and an ant hill.

Usually on weekends, you will find the anthill filled with children. It’s a fun little green hill where kids climb up and slide down.

What more does it offer?

There are a lot of things that you will come across when visiting, you’ll come across flower gardens and yes there is always live music playing in the background which creates a fun vibe.

Other than the flower garden, you’ll see a butterfly garden as well, so for family fun everything here is amazing. You’ll find a corntub in the butterfly garden and also educational graphics for your kids!

It also has a general store and kitchen. The general store and kitchen of this farm are open 8-8 all throughout the year, you can check out the tasters, get jams, jellies, and fruit, buy pies, or buy the fresh produce if you don’t want to pick it, you can just get it here.

Of course, they are also offering merch at their premises so I think get one of those as a memory of your visit and to support the farm.

If you are not in the east, there is a mini barn on the five freeway at the Copus Road exit, both north and south. You can get a taste there, of course, it’s not as big as this one but you can still get to taste what they offer.

Murray Family Farm is the best place to be for a fun weekend or even a fun weekday with your kids, there is something for everyone there. It doesn’t matter if you are a kid or an adult you can enjoy your time there.
